Gilles Bensimon

Born in 1944, Gilles Bensimon grew up in a family of artists and art dealers. A creative spirit from a young age, he began with drawing before turning to photography, developing a visual language rooted in spontaneity and sensitivity.
He joined Elle France in 1967 and later played a major role in launching the American edition in 1985. Appointed creative director in 1999, he shaped the aesthetics of fashion photography over several decades with a style that is natural, luminous, and sensual. He has photographed all the great icons of his era - Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Madonna, Charlize Theron, Gisele Bündchen, and many more.
Alongside his fashion work, Bensimon has always pursued a personal, artistic practice. His more
introspective series explore materiality, light, and paper through drawing, collage, and photography. He continually renews his visual vocabulary with elegance and sensorial depth. In 2023, he continued this exploration with Workonpaper at Galerie Larock-Granoff, showcasing a series of works on paper—a more introspective practice that he describes as therapeutic.
